iPhoneographer of the Day – Paola Grilli

What is with the Italian iphoneographer! They are an emerging group of iPhoneographers and in a class of their own.
Paola is small town girl with big city ambitions. It definitely shows in her work. Paola’s use of warm and cool tones adds a sense of drama and life to her photos.  She has rapidly become one of iPhoneogenic’s favorite iPhoneographers.

Let’s jump into it…

Q: Tell me about yourself? Where are you from?

A: My name is Paola Grilli. I am 38 years old. I’m a freelance Italian architect. I live in Piacenza, Italy, a small town about halfway between Milan and Bologna.

Q: What does photography/iPhoneography mean to you?

A: I love both of them! My relationship with photography began for reasons related to the study, then for work, about ten years ago. Photography has become a passion of mine: I love to look at reality through lens. I’m never satisfied with the first look, I always try to finds ways to feel and create wonder.

When I bought my iPhone (November 2009), I discovered the new world of iPhoneography.  I was immediately captivated by this new way of taking pictures. It is incredibly fast and easy to produce endless artistic possibilities. Really, I think that using the iPhone is a good way of training the eye for each photographer. It helps when looking for interesting details or concentrating on composition. I appreciate iPhoneography so much that my friend Laura (icyThings on Flickr), and I started our own  iPhoneography blog, www.fotogriPhone.it, back in January.

Q: What are your favorite subjects to photograph?

A: I like architectural subjects and urban themes. But anywhere you can find something interesting and catch a nice shot.

Q: What has been the single biggest challenge of using the iPhone as a camera?

A: Just trying to take a great shot with a “poor” fixed focal length lens 3MP camera.

Q: What has been the most surprising or most predictable reaction from people to your iphotographs?

A: Hearing and seeing people be so amazed, “No, this can’t be taken with a mobile phone!”

Q: What’s in your iPhone camera bag (apps)? Which one do you currently use the most often?

A: I have over 100 photo apps on my iPhone. My favorites are: Polaroid-like apps (ShakeItPhoto, Polarize, ClassicInsta), Cross Process, Hipstamatic, PictureShow, TiltShiftGen, Film Lab, and Blurred Photo, but there are so many great apps out there.
